Abraham Trusts God
Genesis 22:1–19
God had promised Abraham a huge family, and after many years Abraham and Sarah had a son, Isaac, whom they loved very much.
When Isaac was a young man, God tested Abraham's trust. God asked Abraham to take Isaac up a mountain in the land of Moriah and give him back to God as an offering. This was very hard to understand. But Abraham trusted that God was good and would keep his promise about Isaac.
Early in the morning Abraham set out with Isaac, two servants and a donkey loaded with wood. After three days they saw the mountain. Abraham and Isaac walked up together. Isaac carried the wood.
Isaac said, Father, we brought wood and fire, but we have no lamb! Abraham answered, God will provide.
At the top, Abraham got everything ready. But before anything happened, an angel of God called out from heaven, Abraham! Abraham! Stop! Don't hurt the boy! Now I know you trust God completely.
Abraham looked up and saw a ram with its horns tangled in a bush. He offered the ram to God instead of Isaac. Abraham named that place The Lord Will Provide.
God never wanted Isaac to be harmed. God blessed Abraham again and promised that through his family, all the nations of the earth would be blessed. Then Abraham and Isaac went home together.
Many years later, God the Father gave his own Son, Jesus, out of love for us. God always provides what we truly need.
